Goods train derails in Telangana’s Peddapalli, 39 trains cancelled

A goods train carrying steel coils and iron rods derailed between Raghavapuram and Ramagundam in Telangana’s Peddapalli district late Tuesday night, causing extensive disruptions across South Central Railway (SCR). Officials reported that 12 wagons derailed around 10 pm, blocking all three tracks on the busy Kazipet-Balharshah section and leading to the cancellation of 39 passenger trains, with an additional 61 trains diverted and seven partially cancelled.

The train, travelling from Bellary in Karnataka to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, obstructed one of SCR’s main triple-line sections, prompting SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain and other senior officials to oversee restoration work on-site. SCR’s Chief Public Relations Officer A Sridhar said a temporary road is being constructed for large cranes to help remove the derailed wagons. He also added that no injuries were reported. SCR expects one track to reopen by Wednesday evening and full traffic to resume on Thursday.

Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is currently campaigning in Maharashtra, was informed of the incident and urged SCR to expedite the restoration. Due to the derailment, long-distance trains, such as the Dakshin Express, have been rerouted, skipping stops between Balharshah and Kazipet, while trains travelling within the SCR zone, including routes to Karimnagar, Nanded, and Tirupati, remain cancelled.

SCR has issued helpline numbers at key stations, including Secunderabad, Kazipet, Warangal, and Khammam, to assist affected passengers.
